I’m planning to visit. What steps is the Whitney taking to provide for the safety of museumgoers and staff?
The Whitney’s top priority is the health and safety of its visitors, members, and staff, and so we have carefully redesigned the check-in and visiting experience. The Museum has implemented enhanced cleaning measures, staff health screenings, added hand-sanitizing stations, and developed new one-way circulation plans.
In keeping with state and city guidelines, we have significantly reduced building capacity. In order to allow us to monitor capacity effectively, all members and visitors must reserve a ticket in advance of their visit. Member tickets are free.

Why do members need to reserve free tickets in advance to visit?
In order for the Museum to monitor capacity in the galleries and to make sure all museumgoers can enjoy the exhibitions while maintaining necessary physical distancing, all members and their guests as well as ticket-buyers must reserve a ticket in advance of their visit.
How do I reserve tickets?
Reserve tickets online. Select your desired date and time, and then log in using the email address associated with your membership. Then follow the steps to complete your reservation. You’ll receive an email with barcoded tickets. On the day of your visit, have your ticket(s) ready on your mobile device or bring a print out to scan at the self-service entry point near the elevators.
Will I need to wait in line?
In order to ensure adequate physical distancing in the lobby during the check-in process, we anticipate that, at times, there will be lines to enter the building. Signs, ground markings, and staff will be in place to assist with physical distancing and queuing. Thank you in advance for working with us and doing your part!
Are you planning any special visiting opportunities for members?
We look forward to welcoming members back to the Museum! As we reopen, we will be hosting dedicated visiting hours on Mondays and Thursdays, 6–7 pm as well as Saturdays and Sundays, 10:30 am–1 pm. Reserve your free tickets online.
I’m planning to visit with a guest. Do I need to reserve a guest ticket in advance?
Yes, all members and visitors must reserve a ticket in advance of their visit. You may reserve a ticket for your guest when you reserve your member ticket online. Select your desired date and time, and then log in using the email address associated with your membership. Then follow the steps to complete the reservation for you and your guest.
Can I bring a guest to Member Hours?
Yes. Just make sure to reserve a guest ticket online beforehand.
Does the Whitney offer discounted general admission tickets for guests of members?
As we reopen the Museum, we are happy to offer expanded complimentary guest benefits for a limited time. On an ongoing basis, members enjoy 50% off general admission tickets for accompanied guests (limits apply).
I just joined or renewed my membership. When will my membership card arrive?
Your membership materials will be mailed approximately three weeks after your membership contribution has been processed. If you’re planning to visit, you may log in using the email address associated with your membership to reserve a free member ticket online—no need to wait for your membership card.
I lost my membership card. Can I get a replacement?
