Education Staff Profiles
ASSISTANT TO ACCESS AND COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
Justin assists with development, administration, and delivery of the Whitney’s Access and Community Programs and contributes to research and outreach activities in the Museum’s downtown neighborhood. He has worked at The Studio Museum in Harlem, Creative Time, and the Cue Art Foundation. Before joining the Whitney’s Education department, Justin was the technical director at BAAD! Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance.
Director of Interpretation and Research
Anne oversees the production of interpretive materials, including texts, videos, and audio programs. She began working at the Whitney as a Teaching Fellow in 2006, and has a PhD in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley.
Assistant to Family Programs
Aurian assists in coordinating all Family Programs, Museum family tours, workshops, and events. Before joining the Education department, Aurian interned at the Brandywine River Museum and at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Aurian is a practicing artist.
Coordinator of Public Programs & Public Engagement
Andrew coordinates public programs, including artists’ talks, lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and courses. Prior to joining the Whitney in 2018, he was the public programs assistant at the Brooklyn Museum.
Coordinator of Teen Programs
Araya coordinates and develops the Whitney’s teen programs including Youth Insights and drop-in teen events. Before joining the Education department, she was the Manager of Youth and Family Programs at the Hudson River Museum. Araya is an avid gardener.
Director of Public Programs and Public Engagement
Megan develops and oversees all adult public programs, including artists’ talks, lectures, panel discussions, workshops, and courses. Prior to joining the Whitney in 2014, she was a Jane and Morgan Whitney Fellow in the Modern and Contemporary Art Department at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and she previously worked in the curatorial and education departments at the New Museum. She is completing a Ph.D. in art and archaeology at Princeton University.
Assistant to Teen Programs
Midrene assists with the Whitney’s Teen and Youth Insights programs as well as drop-in teen events. Before joining the Education department, Midrene completed a Museum Education Fellowship at the Brooklyn Museum and worked as a freelance educator in New York City museums. She is a practicing artist.
Director of School, Youth, and Family Programs
Heather oversees all aspects of School, Youth, and Family Programs, including school visits and partnerships, teacher workshops, an annual summer institute for teachers, weekend family programs, and after-school teen programs.
Education Program Manager
Rachel manages the Education department. She keeps everything running smoothly, assists with administrative duties, manages the budget, and supports the Education Committee. Before joining the Education department, Rachel was the Development and Communications Manager at New York Stage and Film. She moonlights as a performer and writer, with pieces published in Refinery29 and The Cut, and appearances at Joe’s Pub, UCB, and more.
Coordinator of Family Programs
Laura coordinates and develops all things “family,” including family tours, workshops, courses, partnerships, and resource materials. She also creates and organizes all of the Whitney’s large-scale family events. Before joining the Education department, Laura was the Director of Kids and Community Programs at Artshack in Brooklyn. She is a practicing artist.
Coordinator of Interpretation and Research
Emma assists in the coordination and implementation of all interpretive materials and as well as the Docent and Joan Tisch Teaching Fellows Program. Prior to joining the Education staff, she worked as an artist assistant, organized alumnae exhibitions at Barnard College, and was an intern in the Painting and Sculpture department at MoMA.
Coordinator of Access and Community Programs
Londs coordinates development, administration, and delivery of the Whitney’s Access and Community Programs. Prior to joining the Education department, she was the Access Programs Coordinator at the Brooklyn Museum, where she established and expanded programming for visitors with disabilities. Londs is also a dancer and choreographer.
Coordinator of School and Educator Programs
Melissa is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all guided school group tours for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade, as well as School Partnerships and multi-session projects with teachers and students. Additionally, she oversees a staff of freelance Museum educators. Before coming to the Whitney, Melissa worked as the Manager of Education Programs at the Children's Museum of the Arts, New York.
Assistant to School and Educator Programs
Monica assists with all School and Educator Programs including Guided Tours for K-12 students, School Partnerships, and Teacher Exchange. Monica was a Whitney summer intern with School and Educator Programs in 2018.
Director of Access and Community Programs
Dyeemah is responsible for creating policies, programs, and outreach initiatives to make the Whitney a welcoming, accessible, and inclusive environment for people of all backgrounds and abilities. Dyeemah joined the Education department as the Assistant to Teen Programs in 2015 and became the Coordinator of Teen Programs in 2016. She is a practicing photographer.
Manager of Docent and Teaching Fellow Programs
Ellen oversees the Education department’s Docent and Joan Tisch Teaching Fellows Program and the recruitment and training of new Docents and Teaching Fellows. Ellen has a long history with the Museum, both as an alumna of the Whitney Independent Study Program in Curatorial Studies and as a former Teaching Fellow. Ellen has a Ph.D. in Art History.
