SAT, May 5, 2018
2–4 pm

The Tom and Diane Tuft Trustee Room

This series of intensive, single-session courses, led by noted art historians and educators, offers participants an overview of current ideas and practices in contemporary American art. Each session focuses on a particular artistic medium through the lens of a timely theme that animates the work of emerging and established living artists.

Participants are welcome to register for individual sessions or for the entire series.

Crash Course on Contemporary Art: The Politics of Performance
Looking at contemporary trends in dance and performance art, this session will consider how artists make use of the live body to illuminate - and at times challenge - the politics of how bodies are framed within the gallery space.

Instructors: Soyoung Yoon is Program Director and Assistant Professor of Art History & Visual Studies at the Department of the Arts, Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, The New School. She is also a Visiting Faculty at the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program [ISP].

Josh Lubin-Levy is a Joan Tisch Teaching Fellow at the Whitney and a PhD candidate in Performance Studies at NYU. For the past ten years he has worked as a dance dramaturgy and performance curator and he recently joined the faculty at Bard College as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Theater and Performance.
